Why do you love OT?

If I had my way, OT would be called “independence therapy.” I mean, seriously think about it. If you consider what the OT scope of practice is, the settings we work in, the populations we work with, OT is all about getting people to be as independent as possible in the physical, emotional and psychological aspects of daily life.

In what other kind of job could you, theoretically, work with a baby with a brachial plexus injury, a toddler with spina bifida, a teen with autism, a suicidal adolescent, an adult with schizoaffective disorder, another adult with stroke symptoms, an adult with a hip replacement and an adult with dementia? 8 different cases which could be someone’s caseload in one day. Of course, this most likely would not happen, as settings where OTs work are very specific and specialized.
